How business energy comparison actually works

Business energy is not like domestic energy. There is no price cap, contracts are bespoke, and rates change daily with the wholesale market. That means the price you're quoted on a Tuesday morning is not the price on Wednesday afternoon — and it's why business owners who go direct to a single supplier almost always overpay.

Comparing properly means pulling live rates from every major UK commercial supplier for your specific meter, your specific consumption profile, and your specific contract length. That's what we do. In five minutes on the phone, we shortlist the deals that fit your business and you pick the one you want.

What we need from you

  • Business name and trading address (postcode is enough to start)
  • Your current supplier (if you know it — we can find out if not)
  • Your contract end date, or a recent bill
  • A signed Letter of Authority (LOA) so we can request your usage history

What you'll get back

  • A side-by-side comparison of live quotes from the shortlisted suppliers
  • The unit rate (p/kWh), standing charge (p/day), contract length, and total annual cost
  • Transparent disclosure of our commission (built into the unit rate — you pay us nothing directly)
  • A recommendation, and honest reasons why

When you should compare

The best time to compare is 3 to 6 months before your current contract ends. Suppliers will let you sign a new contract that far in advance and lock the rate. Leave it too late and you risk rolling onto a "deemed" or "out-of-contract" rate, which can be 80–120% higher than a negotiated contract.

If you're already out of contract, on a rollover, or moving into new premises — compare today. Every day on the wrong rate is money out the door.

Why use a broker instead of going direct

Going direct to one supplier is like asking one insurance company for a car quote and calling it comparison. Suppliers set their commercial rates based on the risk they see — different suppliers see the same business differently, so the same request produces very different numbers. A whole-of-market broker asks all of them at once and puts the answers in front of you.

Search4Energy is independent. We don't have a preferred supplier, we don't take per-supplier bonuses, and we don't work for the energy company — we work for the business buying the energy.
